St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway
Глубоководный путь Святого Лаврентия
Крупнейший водный путь в Северной Америке, эксплуатируемый совместно США и Канадой. Общая протяженность 3770 км; включает Великие озера [Great Lakes], р. Святого Лаврентия и соединительные каналы в США длиной 345 км (Давенпорт - Чикаго и Ниагара - Сиракьюс). Построен в 1959, частично реконструирован в 1970-72. На территории США крупнейшие порты - Детройт и Чикаго. Океанские суда идут отсюда без перевалки в Атлантический океан. Свободен от льда с мая по ноябрь. Для управления им создана государственная "Корпорация развития Глубоководного пути Св. Лаврентия" [Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corp.] в структуре Министерства транспорта [Department of Transportation, U.S.]
